copia originale italiana 1970 Laminated sleeve / Una delle storie più buffe e allo stesso paradossali nel rock è quella inventata dalla rivista "Rolling Stone" nell’ottobre del 1969 quando pubblicò una finta recensione di un disco inesistente dei fantomatici MASKED MARAUDERS ovvero la registrazione di una session memorabile con John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger e Bob Dylan, con la produzione di Al Kooper, costretti a nascondersi dietro un falso nome per ragioni contrattuali.. Furono in tantissimi ad abboccare e a prenotare l’album (pare che perfino i manager di Beatles , Stones e Dylan chiesero a “Rolling Stone” come fare a reperirlo), tanto che si decise di proseguire con lo scherzo, facendo incidere in fretta e furia ad un gruppo di San Francisco, la Cleanliness and Godliness Skiffle Band, una session con i brani segnalati nella recensione, imitando le voci di Jagger e Dylan. Subito dopo una radio locale trasmise un paio di brani e la Warner Bros sborsò la considerevole cifra di 15.000 dollari per stamparlo. Il disco vendette 100.000 copie in pochissimo tempo. Solo successivamente venne svelata la presa in giro ma non mancò chi si rifiutò di credere alla truffa e continuando a restare convinto dell’avvenuta session.
