MAJIC SHIP
Majic Ship

2LP gatefold cover ITA reissue - Akarma ‎– AK 084/2 - Hard Rock/Pop/Psychedelic band formed in New York. Arising out of adolescent garage band the Primitives, which played primitive covers of British Invasion tunes, the New Primitives came together in New York City in 1966, originally composed of a group of high school friends: Ray Rifice (guitar), Tommy Nikosy (guitar), Rob Buckman (drums), and Mike Garrigan (vocals). Soon, the band increased to a group of five with the addition of bassist/organist Gus Riozzi. They kept a busy performance schedule throughout the next few years when their high school commitments allowed it. In 1968, Rifice left the band to attend college, but at about the same time, former '50s crooner turned manager Johnny Mann saw the band live and promised to get them a recording contract. Philip Polimeni replaced Rifice on lead guitar, and the New Primitives became Majic Ship. Mann introduced the band to the Tokens, who produced their first single, "Night Time Music." It became a local hit, even gaining the band some national airplay, as did a second single, "Hummin." After much touring and a couple more singles, Majic Ship found their way to a studio to record their self-titled debut album in the summer of 1969. Majic Ship melded hard rock, pop, and psychedelia in a way similar to fellow New Yorkers Vanilla Fudge. The band continued on for the next couple of years with plans to record a second album, but those plans were nixed when the band's shared house in Staten Island burned to the ground in 1971, taking with it virtually all their recording equipment and instruments. Without any insurance, the band members called it quits.

SHIVA'S HEADBAND
Coming To A Head

Akarma reissue - AK 250 - Shiva’s Headband (or Shiva's Head Band), an early Texas psychedelic rock band, formed in Austin in 1967. The group was the house band at the Vulcan Gas Company, a late 1960s Austin nightclub. The band is credited with a significant role in the founding of the Armadillo World Headquarters. The band's first royalty check opened the club and hired Eddie Wilson as manager. Shiva's Headband was also the first band to perform there. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, the band played with touring acts such as Spirit, Steppenwolf, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat and Steve Miller. Austin psychedelic bands contemporary to Shiva's Headband included the 13th Floor Elevators and The Conqueroo -

Big Lost Rainbow

Akarma ‎– AK 078 - Includes 2 inserts with lyrics - The first incarnation of the band materialized in 1970 in Pomfret, Connecticut. In 1973 they relocated to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where they began rehearsing, eventually deciding to record a demo. It was recorded in Maryland in the late summer of 1973 and finally, with additional material recorded in New Haven, became an album. The 1st pressing was 200 copies. In the same year it was re-mixed and re-pressed two more time. After two years of touring and no interest about a 2nd album from a record label, they disbanded in 1975

JOHN'S CHILDREN
Jagged Time Lapse (Rare & Unreleased)

180G gatefold cover - Get Back – GET508, Get Back – GET 508 - gatefold cover - John's Children were a 1960s pop art/mod rock band from Leatherhead, England that briefly featured future T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan. John's Children were known for their outrageous live performances and were booted off a tour with The Who in Germany in 1967 when they upstaged the headliners. Their 1967 single "Desdemona", a Bolan composition, was banned by the BBC because of the controversial lyric, "Lift up your skirt and fly". Their US record label delayed the release their album, Orgasm for four years from its recording date due to objections from Daughters of the American Revolution. John's Children were active for less than two years and were not very successful commercially, having released only six singles and one album. But they had a big influence on punk rock and are seen by some as the precursors of glam rock. In retrospect the band has been praised for the impact they had, and their singles have become amongst the most sought-after British 1960s rock collectables.

DARK
Dark Round The Edges

Issued in textured gatefold sleeve with a 12-page, 7-3/4" x 8-1/2”, black & white lyric booklet. Black vinyl edition although "Limited edition of 1000 copies in marble vinyl" written on page 2 of the booklet - Akarma – AK 007 - Dark is a psychedelic rock band from Northampton, England, UK, that was formed in 1968. The band released one album, Dark Round The Edges, in 1972. This legendary progressive rock band, which was responsible for the UK's most expensive album, was formed by Steve Giles whilst at school in Northampton in 1968. They met local entrepreneur Alan Bowley who'd recently converted a derelict house into a recording studio, and this led to four acetates of "RC8" and "In The Sky". They performed at a few local gigs, and as their playing got tighter, decided to go into SIS Studios, Northampton, with engineer Alan Bowley, to record an album. The six tracks, written and arranged by the band were recorded over a weekend in 1972 and consist of melodic progressive rock laced with lots of fuzzy guitar riffs. Only a handful of copies were pressed, and Giles, who had a strong interest in photography, made the first twelve copies into full-colour gatefold sleeves, complete with booklets of photographs stapled together, augmented with handwritten notes. They were handed out to band members and their girlfriends. The band then split with Clive and Martin going their own ways, and Steve and Ron continuing to record for their own pleasure until 1977 when Ron married and moved to Cornwall.
